- 2018 Revisions to Driver OOS Criteria:
- Clarified when roadside inspectors should place drivers out of service for medical disqualifications, including:
- A driver operating a passenger-carrying vehicle who does not have the medical certificate on his/her person and it is not on the state driving record.
- A non-excepted CDL driver (passenger or property-carrying) who incorrectly self-certified as excepted, and does not have a valid medical card with him/her or on file with the state.
- Instructed roadside inspectors to accept a state driving record indicating an active CDL when the record does not contain the medical certification.
- Added Alberta Class 3 license as a Canadian license that requires additional proof of medical certification.
- Removed and amended footnotes on electronic logging devices (ELDs).
- 2018 Revisions to Vehicle OOS Criteria:
- Added “drum” to hydraulic and electric brake requirements.
- Added a note on flat countersunk socket head cap screws so they are not to be used as OOS violation for other upper coupler bolts.
- Created a new exception for knotted or twisted chains when used as a safety device for full trailers, while still considered defective when used on a single piece of cargo.
- Clarified leaks in exhaust systems for buses.
